This document is high-level, and strategically considers the district’s resources through our kawa and tikanga-based perspectives as Hokonui Rūnanga. Its creation is a critical step for us in considering environmental outcomes in our own space and language, not limited by resource management legislation, or the role and functions of Local Authorities.
Ngāi Tahu ki Murihiku Natural Resource and Environmental Iwi Management Plan 2008
The Plan is to provide a living, working document that can assist Ngāi Tahu ki Murihiku to effectively participate in natural resource and environmental policy and planning.
As a resource for local authorities it enables councils to ensure Ngāi Tahu ki Murihiku issues and policies are provided for in planning documents and determines the nature and extent of consultation required with respect to specific activities or areas of importance.
An Act to restate and reform the law relating to the use of land, water and air
The main statute law governing how people interact with natural resources. As well as managing air, soil, freshwater and the coastal marine area, the RMA regulates land use and the provision of infrastructure, which are integral components of Aotearoa New Zealand’s resource management system.

Technical Report Providing for hauora, the health and well-being of waterbodies in Murihiku Southland.
